At the moment I am thinking about making some changes to the way that we do homework. What I am thinking of doing is this. I think that we will have three sections of homework that all students must complete. These will be reading, maths and spelling. I am thinking of making the rest of the weekly homework optional. Students who are really keen to take their learning further will have the option of completing the other tasks. These tasks will involve researching, creating and investigating countries, cultures, people, places and current issues. I would like to hear what you have to say about my plans for homework. Please comment on the following,
- Do you like the idea of some of the homework being optional?
- Would you be interested in completing some really interesting optional tasks?
- What kind of optional tasks would you be interested in researching or investigating?
Please carefully consider this and make a comment. Please include as much detail as possible.
1: I do think it's a good idea, but it's also letting people off a bit easy. You could let the people that are doing a good job in homework already.

i think having the option to take that extra step and push your self!

I am positive I'm ready to take part in some interesting optional tasks especially if it involves ICT or presentation i think it would also
be cool if we had some tasks to do as partners!
What kind of optional tasks would you be interested in researching or investigating?
something like researching space for example or like how things work it would be cool to find out how a remote control works!
mainly something that could involve presentation! :)
tips:
you could hand work out on fridays at the same time we hand it in then those who stuggle have a extra 2 days
or you could do some tasks that expand to over one week like for example if we researched something in week one then present it in
week 2
also on thursdays have half an hour for 'homework club' while others read so if they struggle they can get help from you or their class

1. I think that some of the work being optional is a good idea but I think that the people who do chose to do extra during the week need a reward if its free time at the end of the week or club R3 points etc.
ReplyDelete2.For me yes, because were gonna need extra knowledge especially the year 8s who are moving to highschool but I still think that it should be optional.
3.Things I would be interested in would be current events, weather, solar system, other countries, famous people, NZ, national days ( waitangi day, for example) because I dont know much about that. Another thing is that they need to be fun otherwise no one will want to do them, especially being optional.

Well, Mr Creek, I totally support this idea, but I have an easier way of managing this. In Rm9, Mrs Skinner made a group called the research team. That team did some researching that didn't even concern the school main topic, like once we did famous scientists, other times we got into groups of 4 or something and made cookies with flavors from a different country. What we did was, well 1 group made the cookies, 1 group made a packaging for the cookies and lastly, 1 more group to present what we did in a format (presentation, poster, movie etc). Hope you like this idea!
