Madi's story
I feel as if I was flying as I got pushed out of the plane. My cheeks danced around my face as I fall gracefully. I pull my parachute, but it doesn’t work. I feel the adrenalin rushing through my veins as I panic. What will I do? No one else is free falling they can’t help me. As I search frantically through my mind looking for something that can help me. I can’t find anything. I close my eyes waiting for the impact then my breath gets taken away from me and someone grasps my chest hauling me close to theirs. My heart pumps slower but just. I try to turn around to look who was saving me, but no one was there, and I still feel the grasp clutching my chest. As my speed starts slow, the ground becomes clearer and clearer. I notice the Sky Tower, the cars beeping along. Suddenly everything goes black. I wake up gasping for breath. Was that just a dream or was it real? I pull back the covers revealing my warm Pj’s underneath. I get up with a groan. I slide on my slippers and go down stairs. I smell the warm, fuzzy feeling of pancakes. “Hey mu-“I walk into see the pan cooking, moving around with no one there making it do that. “Hello Anika. What would you like for breakfast” a voice comes from over the stove top “W..wwhy can’t I se..ee yo…u?” She says stammering, not believing her eyes. “Well I’m not really sure because others can see me, so I don’t know why you can’t” He says mater of factly. “Who are you? Why are you in my house? Where is my mum? MUM!! MUM!!! Where are you?” I yell frantically” “MU-“ “She’s fine. Don’t worry” He says calmly “Still I would like to know where she is, NOW!” I demanded. He put his hands up in the sign of surrender ( not that she could see) and came over to her and came visible. “Okay then. Are you prepared for what your about to see” He asked sincerely. “Why should I prepared? You said she was okay so I see no reason for being prepared.” “I’m just kidding. I thought it would make the situation spookier somehow anyway follow me” He laughed and headed for the door in a casual manner. “Who are you anyway?” I asked following him but being cautious all the same. “You’ll find out soon enough.” As they made their way to the car she noticed something familiar about him. She had seen before somewhere, her mind just couldn’t place where. “Where are we going?” She asks pulling up the door handle to get in. “Please why won’t you tell me? What’s with all the secretism? I should at least know a few things about this person sitting next to me. Shouldn’t I?” She glares at him with a look in her eye even her mother couldn’t read. “Well you should but let’s wait.” We pull out of the driveway, then down the street towards the City. I still wonder who he is. His name is on the tip of my tongue, niggling away at me, begging me to find out who he was. Still I somehow trust him, I don’t know how but I do so I carry on with the trip without any questions that won’t get any answers. We pull into a place that seems to be an old warehouse, but again it looks familiar. I get out and stare in amazement. This is where the plane took off in my dream, where she got ready with her parachute and goggles. Thoughts go racing through her mind. Her heart beats faster than a jet engine. I follow the mysterious man, my trust decreasing every minute he doesn’t tell me things. “Why are we here? My mum doesn’t come to places like this. I’m very confused about this.” I stop at the doorway wondering if I should go in. He smiles with a look in his eyes that scare her, but makes him all the more familiar. She is very puzzled with him. A conundrum that can’t be solved. I make my way into the building, debris falling lightly over my head, scattering my swirling brown hair with ash. I stare with worry and anticipation. I wait for him to come so I can follow. We walked into what seemed to be the courtyard. There was a fountain in the middle and we walked towards it. He looked into the water to see his reflection staring back at him. He smiled. He kept staring which made her nervous. She bit her bottom lip till it bled. The coppery taste lingering in her mouth.” Why do you keep looking at yourself? It’s just a fountain” She questioned. He slowly turned and looked at him. “I was seeing if there we any coins in the bottom, I guess” He stalked off in the direction of the outer fountains. He just kept looking into all of them, like it was therapeutic. She looked into the water, not to see her reflection but her mothers. She screamed. “WHY IS MY REFLECTION MY MOTHERS!?!” He ran over and said “All I know is that I’m not the answer Voodoo and you need to wait until we meet your mother. She will know.” “How would she know?” She asked shivering with fear. Why was this happening to her? She just wanted a normal life, living with her mother. I just want her back. She wandered over to a patch of grass that had bees buzzing joyfully around the daisies. I placed myself on the grass and plucked some daisies and made a daisy chain. Me and my Mother used to make these all the time. I started to cry like a tap on full burst. I got up, wiped my eyes, chucked the daisy chain on the ground and went over to him. “What is your name?” She asked sadly. “Morpheus. A friend in your dream. I saved you. If you died there, you would died here, In the real world.” He said calmly, staring into my pale blue eyes, mine staring into a hazel forest. My thoughts ran around in my head, like a file compartment in a tornado. I ran out of the courtyard and into a room across from it. I shut and locked the door. I slid down, head in hands, and balled my eyes out, again. I got up and placed my self on the bed in the corner, hearing the thumping on the door. I just ignored it and fell into a restless sleep. “Wake up. Wake up Anika!” I feel someone slapping my face. My elbow props me up. “What do you want? Did you just break the door down? I said questioningly. “Yes I broke the door down. Why did you lock it? That’s not important; we have to leave, NOW!” He grabbed my arm, half pulling, half dragging me out the door. We ran through the corridors, the building blowing up around us. It felt slow motion as we jumped over fallen roof supports, ducked the heavy debris and ran as fast as our legs could carry us. We tried to go through an exit, only to be blocked by the doorway caving in. Our legs do sharp turns this way and that until we finally make it outside only to find the car gone. “Crap. What do are we going to do now Morpheus?” I stare at him with fear, anxiety and question. He answers me with an answer I didn’t expect, ever. “We are going to….fly” My eyes nearly bulge out of my sockets. Before I even have a chance to reply he has me by the hand and we are in the air, the buildings collapsing around us. My adrenalin rushing through my veins as top speed. I look up at Morpheus to see him smiling.
